About This Dream is a Poem

“Booked” by Harshita Ilango

Welcome.

This is a cozy, literary home for writers, journal keepers, people who are curious about their dreams, and creative souls of all stripes and genres.

This newsletter grew out of my work as an author and dreamwork professional—not to mention a lifelong passion for dreams, poetry, and writing.

This Dream is a Poem is also an outgrowth of and part of the ongoing discussion informed by my book, Dreaming on the Page: Tap into Your Midnight Mind to Supercharge Your Writing. (And my other books.)

This newsletter is both a companion to you on your creative journey into dreams and writing and a forum for those who want to dream and write together.

Dreams and Writing Make Perfect Bedfellows.

Dreams contain all the elements of great literature: Metaphor, symbolism, vivid imagery, pathos, puns, and personification. So it’s no surprise that writers from Coleridge to Clifton to King have relied on dreams and visions to craft their works.

Combining writing with dreamwork and active imagination opens us to stores of creativity, wisdom, and guidance. This method is designed to be generative and impactful for all creative souls, whether or not you remember your dreams, and whether you are an experienced writer, a casual journal keeper — or anything in between.

Discover your dreamy potential by purchasing the Dreaming on the Page book, enrolling in a Dreaming on the Page (DOTP) course, or booking a one-on-one DOTP session to explore your dream-inspired writing.

For those who are wondering …

How often will this newsletter come out?

This Dream is a Poem will be published 1-2 times per month, with invitations to join the discussion on chat.

What can I expect from the newsletter?

Contemplations and poetic writing about dreams and writing and all of the places they intersect. You might also receive prompts for writing, tips for getting to know your dreams, and more.

What does the title, ‘This Dream is a Poem’ mean?

The title of this newsletter, “This Dream is a Poem,” was inspired by Marwa Helal’s poem, “the Poem is a dream telling you its time.” https://poets.org/poem/poem-dream-telling-you-its-time

Will every comment I write be answered? Who moderates this?

I drop into the comments a few times a week to respond.

I write poetry and stories from my dreams, is this a place to share them?

There may be times when I invite  people to share their poems or stories in our chat threads. Sometimes those threads will be for paid subscribers only. You can also check out my Dreaming on the Page Facebook group, where we share our dream-inspired writing. (The Facebook group is for “members only,” so just mention you are a Substack subscriber to be admitted.)

How can I support Tzivia’s work with This Poem is a Dream and Dreaming on the Page?

I also offer a pay-what-you-can subscription for those who want the benefits of being a paid subscriber, but for whom the price tag is out of reach.
